From startups to cybersecurity, USC Viterbi School of Engineering has had a memorable decade since its landmark naming gift.
It was a gift that would change engineering at USC forever. USC Trustee Andrew J. Viterbi PhD ’62 and his wife, Erna, donated $52 million to USC in 2004, naming the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. Andrew Viterbi knows engineering well: He co-founded Qualcomm and created the Viterbi algorithm, which is used in everything from wireless and satellite communications to online search engines. A decade later, the Viterbis continue to invest in innovation. This year, they gave another $15 million to the university, designating $10 million to USC Viterbi and $5 million to USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education.
